Rust Riot 08

	The SCRV All-Star Travel Team headed across the sound to do battle at the Rust Riot. The event was hosted by the Rat City Rollergirls and it featured northwest roller derby at its finest.
The competing teams included: the Jet City Rollergirls (Everett, WA), the Lava City Roller Dolls (Bend, OR), the Lilac City Rollergirls (Spokane, WA), the Oly Rollers (Olympia, WA), the Rat City Rollergirls (Seattle, WA), the Rose City Rollers (Portland, OR), the Treasure Valley Rollergirls (Boise,ID), and of course your own Slaughter County Roller Vixens! The teams all squared off in a bracketed tournament that lasted more than 10 hours!
	The first bout of the day just happened to be us against the Rose City Rollers team - the Axles of Annihilation. Although the team out of Portland was favored to win our girls planned to let them know what Puget Sound roller derby is all about!
We say "Slaughter" you say "County!"
The more experienced Axles of Annihilation ran the score up impressively during the first half, but soon the SCRV All-Stars got over their early morning (or afternoon for the rest of you) jitters and weren't about to give up.
		Go ahead, make my day!
	After the half the SCRV All-Stars came back with high spirits and they let it work for them on the track by closing the gap in the score.
One of the more popular ways to pass the time in the penalty box is to make up dirty limericks and share them with those around you!
The excitement grew as our girls played one of the most spectacular second halves of the tournament. They even went on to out score the Axes of Annihilation in points scored in the second half!
		Bruises - the gift that keeps on giving.
	Even after such an awesome performance in the end the Axes of Annihilation held on to their comfortable early lead and came out on top 90 - 50. Unfortunately, that meant that our girls wouldn't be competing any more that day, but there was still fun to be had as the rest of the bouts continued on.
You shall not pass!
The bouts following ours were all fantastic and the championship bout between the Axes of Annihilation and the Rat City Rollergirls was what big time roller derby is all about. Rat City ended up with the win which is always good because that meant none of the local girls would be breaking things at the bars that night. The following day also had some fun events including bouts between teams made up of smokers vs non-smokers, parents vs non-procreators, and the highly anticipated jammers vs blockers. Thanks to Rat City for hosting such a great event and we look forward to attending next year!
